Michael Dwayne Vick (born June 26, 1980, in Newport News, Virginia) is a professional American football quarterback. Vick is currently a free agent, though suspended from NFL play. Vick played college football at Virginia Tech. As a quarterback, he was remarkable for both his running and passing abilities. In 1999, he set the NCAA record for passing efficiency by a freshman and won several awards. He placed third in the Heisman Trophy balloting, then also a record for a freshman. He left Virginia Tech after his sophomore season to enter the NFL. Read more

In this eight-part series, cameras will not only capture the NFL star's return to football after a two-year prison term stemming from his association with a dogfighting ring, but they will also focus on much of his life prior to that turning point.

"There's so much ego involved in dog fighting, but why? It's not a skill, it's not something you get accolades for. You don't really get anything good out of it, so go find a way to satisfy your ego in a way that doesn't harm animals or other people. And maybe helps some people out instead. You can feed your ego and do good at the same time." - Feb 21, 2010; Essence Magazine

Eagles def. Jaguars

2009 Preseason: Eagles 33, Jags 32
View Photos

The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a good start; they defeated the Jacksonville Jags last night with a score of 33-32. There’s a ton more photos to come and I’ll add them once my ‘net decides that it likes me again. Thanks to Nicolle for showing me the photos!

Continually check back as I keep adding photos.

Misc. Updates

At last word, Michael Vick is still scheduled to play in the first quarter of tonight’s Eagles game against the Jaguars. Also I got a layout for Victorious, which is the site’s gallery, but understandably I probably won’t have pictures for a little while.

Also, Vick was ranked #10 in today’s top searches on Yahoo.

New Layout

Welcome to M-Vick.net, version 2! Tried to “go green” since Vick’s playing for the Eagles now and he will indeed play his first game this Thursday! The comments link doesn’t work at the moment; I’m still playing with it so if you want to leave a comment you can do that in the tagboard.

Mike Will Play Thursday!

Quarterback Michael Vick will make his preseason debut for the Philadelphia Eagles in Thursday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Lincoln Financial Field, Eagles Coach Andy Reid said Tuesday.

Reid made the announcement at a news conference. He previously had said that Vick was likely to play but had indicated that he would have to see how things went in practice before making that plan definite.

Reid said that Vick will play during the first three quarters of the game, the span during which Reid indicated he plans to have his team’s starters on the field. That would mean that Vick could replace starter Donovan McNabb to run the Eagles’ version of the Wildcat offense, and it perhaps could mean that Vick could line up at running back or wide receiver at times.

Vick not in trouble

A report that Eagles quarterback Michael Vick could be facing more sanctions from the NFL or may have jeopardized his pending reinstatement to the league by consuming alcohol is not accurate, according to the Eagles, who signed Vick earlier this month, shortly after his release from a halfway house following a prison sentence for conspiracy and dog fighting.

“We are aware of the report and it is not in conflict with terms of his probation or reinstatement with the NFL,” spokesman Derek Boyko said.

The Eagles were responding Sunday to a New York Post article on Aug. 16 that Vick was drinking vodka with friends.

The article itself did not suggest Vick was in any kind of trouble, but it did fuel speculation that he might be. Hence the Eagles’ statement.

Vick May Be Playing Soon

Michael Vick showed no signs of rust during the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice Sunday, throwing tight spirals with plenty of velocity.

“How does Michael look in the offense? He looks pretty good,” offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said. “It was a fairly seamless transition, even though he hadn’t played for two years, because of the terminology. It’s very similar. Now, many of the details are different and details are where you win football games, so that’s the important part there. But the terminology is coming very easily to him.”

Mornhinweg said coach Andy Reid will probably make a decision Tuesday on whether Vick will make his preseason debut Thursday at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Vick worked with offensive assistants James Urban and Doug Pederson on Sunday.

“Every day he works with James and Doug he picks up a little more,” Mornhinweg said. “He hasn’t played in two years, so a lot of it is just getting him into football shape.

“I think he was in decent shape coming in, as far as in general. But moving, cutting, lateral movement, throwing the football, moving while he’s throwing the football, that’s what we needed to see.”

ASPCA condemns Vick, Eagles

New Eagles quarterback Michael Vick’s handlers approached the American Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty months ago about doing educational work against dogfighting, but the organization immediately turned them down because of “his indescribable and barbaric acts of animal cruelty” while running an illegal dogfighting operation, the group revealed on its Web site yesterday.

The remarks, the first public comments from the group, were written by ASPCA president Ed Sayres.

“This organization and I personally have seen the acts of cruelty committed by Mr. Vick first hand – acts so heinous that the public has never laid witness to them,” Sayres wrote, noting that the ASPCA helped process evidence that led to Vick’s 18-month imprisonment.

Sayres condemned Vick’s return to the NFL and signing with the Eagles: “Today, it is difficult to see him in the uniform of a Philadelphia Eagle because of the startling lack of judgment and moral character he has demonstrated over the past several years. It is questionable whether he will have any credibility as an educator on the dog fighting issue.”

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said he is convinced that Vick is remorseful and deserves a second chance.

Vick to Debut Next Week

According to head coach Andy Reid, Michael Vick will make his Philadelphia Eagles debut next Thursday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Reid said Saturday that “right now that’s the plan.”

Vick signed with the Eagles on Aug. 13 but was not allowed to play in the team’s first two preseason games under the provisions of his suspension from the league.

Vick will backup Donovan McNabb, but could see some time in the “Wildcat” formation this season due to his athleticism and running ability. Unless McNabb gets hurt, Vick will likely see limited time at quarterback.
