Quotables
"There's so much ego involved in dog fighting, but why? It's not a skill, it's not something you get accolades for. You don't really get anything good out of it, so go find a way to satisfy your ego in a way that doesn't harm animals or other people. And maybe helps some people out instead. You can feed your ego and do good at the same time." - Feb 21, 2010; Essence Magazine

Chris Rock in trouble over Pro-Vick Comment

Chris Rock has built a lucrative career on pushing the envelope, but the comedian’s recent comment regarding Michael Vick and his treatment of dogs has enraged the widow of comic legend Richard Pryor who was an animal rights activist.

Rock, who was reportedly interested in making a film of Pryor’s life, made a controversial joke during an October appearance on Jay Leno. “What the hell did Michael Vick do? Pitbulls ain’t (sic) even real dogs! Dogs have never been good to black people!” he quipped on the late night show.

Jennifer Lee Pryor- Pryor’s widow and an animal activist- is seething that Rock has not picked up the phone to apologize. She reached out to Rock’s publicist but has not received a response.

Michael Vick: He’s happy to be with Eagles

Eagles QB Michael Vick clarified today that he did was not complaining about his role with the Eagles when he speculated earlier this week if his NFL future would remain in Philadelphia.

Vick told NBC on Sunday that staying as a third-option on the Eagles next year “would be a struggle.” And his former mentor, Tony Dungy, speculated that the Bills could lead a handful of teams interested in pursuing him.

Vick told reporters today he’s grateful just to be in the NFL right now, and said he’s not unhappy with his role on the 2009 Eagles :

“I’ve said it many times and I don’t mind saying it again — I’m just happy to be playing football. Two years ago, I wasn’t playing football and I didn’t know if I had a future in football. I know what I said, and I didn’t mean it to come across as being disgruntled or upset or anything like that. I just want to have a chance at playing time. That’s just me being a competitor. But if that’s not the situation, what can I say? I just have to keep working and getting better.”

Vick reiterated that he does not consider himself just a Wildcat option, but that he’s happy playing a role in special packages with the Eagles this year while he gets reacclimated to the NFL.

“I don’t want to be handing the ball off,” Vick said. “That’s not what I do. I didn’t come into the league doing that, and I don’t want to do it for the rest of my career unless it’s just something that’s involved in the offense.”

Vick, 29, also told reporters that he is taking the long view. The three-time Pro Bowler originally said that he was disappointed not to return to the NFL as a starter. But he realizes now his path back to a starting job will require patience.

“The good thing is, I’m young and I’m going to have an opportunity to do that down the road,” Vick said. “I’ve just got to be patient. Whether it’s two years, three years from now, I’ve just got to be patient and take that opportunity when it arises.”

Philly loses to Chargers

The Eagles are now 5-4-0…they lost Sunday to the San Diego Chargers, 31-23.

Vick’s Not Happy Being an Eagle

While being really, really careful not to say anything that would make waves, Philadelphia Eagles “quarterback” Michael Vick said yesterday that he’s not thrilled about his role in the Philadelphia offense. He doesn’t dig the Wildcat, and if it’s up to him, he won’t be doing it next year.

“It would be hard,” Vick said of returning to the Eagles, according to excerpts released by NBC. “It would be an everyday struggle. But I would have to take that time to hone my skills and get better. I’m excited about the opportunity I have moving forward whether it’s with Philadelphia or another team.”

“I won’t be a Wildcat guy. I can’t,” Vick told NBC. “It’s a different style of play. It’s almost like a hit-or-miss type of thing. My position is quarterback. That’s what I was born to do.”

Not that that’s Vick’s fault, mind you.
